Congressman Garamendi Votes Against Misguided Bill that would Defund Law Enforcement
DAVIS, CA - Yesterday, Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield, CA) attended the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Yolo County Small Business Development Center. These centers provide assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs by providing a variety of free and low-cost consulting services.
"Small businesses are America’s economic engine," said Congressman Garamendi. "In the past 10 years, small businesses have created over 65% of all new jobs in this country. This Small Business Development Center will help existing businesses and new entrepreneurs achieve their professional goals and keep our local economy strong."
"The US Small Business Administration is proud to work alongside local leaders and agencies committed to the success of small businesses," said US Small Business Administration Sacramento District Director Joe McClure. "The Small Business Development Center here in Yolo County will be a great regional asset, providing invaluable services and resources to small businesses looking to startup or expand."
"The Metro Chamber plays a critical role in regional economic development – namely, business retention and expansion – meaning we connect businesses to the resources they need to grow," Sacramento Metro Chamber Economic Development Manager Scott Leslie said. "As a program of the Metro Chamber, the Capital Region SBDC provides the management tools and access to capital needed for businesses and entrepreneurs to develop and expand."
"The Davis Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the new Yolo Hub of the Capital Region Small Business Development Center," said Davis Chamber of Commerce CEO Matt Yancey. "We feel strongly that any Yolo County small business – member or non-member; located inside or outside of Davis – that needs help should be able to access it. With the opening of this SBDC hub office, all they need to do is call or come by the Davis Chamber in order to do so."
Garamendi, a graduate of Harvard Business School who has run a small business with his wife Patricia for 40 years, has been a longtime supporter of small businesses. He has voted for over a dozen tax cuts to help small businesses in local communities, and voted for legislation that would increase lending and investment opportunities for entrepreneurs.
On August 26, Garamendi will be hosting a Small Business Boost Conference with participants from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce, Solano County Small Business Development Center, Solano County Economic Development Corporation, Yuba Sutter Economic Development Corporation, Yolo County Workforce Investment Board, Davis Chamber of Commerce, Yuba Sutter Chamber of Commerce, North Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, North Central Counties Consortium, and SCORE. This conference will provide multiple workshops and trainings to help small businesses boost their business strategies and operations.
